A Cherry Blossom tree donated by the Hiroshima Girl's School to Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Oak Ridge was a town created by the United States government for the sole purpose of refining the nuclear material needed for the atom bombs tested in Nevada and those later dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Most of those working on the project were only told what little they needed to know to do their job. Some would turn a knob when a dial went above a certain number. They didn't know why, they couldn't talk to their friends about what they did, and they couldn't ask what their coworkers did.

When they discovered what they'd made, many regretted working on it. The town of Oak Ridge has donated money to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan created a friendship bell which now sits in the middle of Oak Ridge, and this cherry blossom tree is planted outside the old army church, next to what were once the army barracks, but are now apartments.
